These scholarships are for PhD candidates from low and middle-income Commonwealth countries to spend 12 months at a UK university as part of their doctoral studies in their home country. They enable talented and motivated individuals to gain the knowledge and skills required for sustainable development and are aimed at those who could not otherwise afford to study in the UK.
The scholarships facilitate access to UK facilities, equipment and expertise for high-quality doctoral candidates, and contribute to UK and Commonwealth higher education and research through supporting collaboration and partnerships between universities. Read the report into the opportunities provided by the Split-site scholarships and their impact on international development.
Study in the UK will begin in September/October 2023. To be eligible, candidates must be registered for a PhD at a university in an eligible Commonwealth country by the time their scholarship is confirmed. There must also be an institutional or departmental link between the candidate’s home university and their proposed UK university/department. The research project will have a developmental focus and the potential to deliver impact in the candidates’ home countries.
The closing date for applications, including all supporting documentation, is 2 March 2023 at 16:00 (GMT). For full details, including eligibility criteria and how to apply, visit the Split-site application page.
